Tazmaa has been my internet alias for as long as I can remember. My name is Valerie Ryan, I'm a Canadian woman who has been working as a freelance anime art & graphic art commission artist since 2003.

I draw mostly custom digital cartoon comic art & anime art, however I also do many forms of graphic artwork including logo design, flyers & banners, booklets, special occasion cards & posters, personalized stationary and well... any odd little custom graphic illustration art or design related job you can come up with!

I am easy to work with, friendly and I take pride in the details of my artwork.

Anime Art & Western Cartoon Art

I’ve been told on countless occasions that my art style is a mix between Anime and Western Comic Art. Of course, being a huge fan of the anime style of art, I often try to veer off to the more traditional Japanese manga style of anime art.

As my art style matures I see it changing frequently so who knows what will influence my style next? I also dabble in realistic sketching. As I continue to draw I am constantly trying to expand my artistic horizons and am enjoying seeing my artwork take on a beautiful illustrative style.

I’ve learned a lot in art school and even more through experience of doing custom art by commission for many different people around the world. I am eager to continue to see what I can do with my skills in design, art and illustration, even beyond the anime and fantasy realm.

Most recently I have enjoyed using traditional forms of media such as line art with ink and painting with watercolor using a paint brush and professional watercolor pigments. I am still learning.

Graphic Design Art Professional

Having graduated Visual College of Art & Design's Graphic Design program in Vancouver, BC 2012, I went on to continue working freelance doing commission artwork for people all over the world.

At this point I am proficient with several Graphic Art programs including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Dreamweaver. I also have the knowledge of preparing digital art for print purposes, including working with spot colors, bleeds, crop marks and layout templates. Likewise preparing digital work for web use, interactive PDFs or ebooks and working with templates for the multitudes of social media graphics for use in business or personal channels.

My knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and jQuery gives me a unique advantage when working with clients for web graphics and effects.

This website is primarily a gallery and portfolio to showcase my art and to answer questions for those who want to hire me for their commission art projects.
